Peter
Street Community Centre is located only a short walk from
St. Helens town Centre near Asda supermarket and Mecca Bingo
in Kirkland Street.
Peter Street was built in 1905 by the Pilkington Family and
the Foundation Stones laid by Emma and Constance Pilkington
as a Girls Institute. Later it became a Youth Club and
provided dances and holidays for young people. It was
taken over by St. Helens Council in 1980 and began
functioning as a Community Centre. The Centre at the
moment caters for all ages providing learning opportunities,
recreational and social events.
The Centre is run by four members of staff. With help
from volunteers staff organise a varied programme of
activities, facilitate opportunities for people to meet and
organise Special Events.
