St. Helens lies between Liverpool, about fifteen miles to the west, and Manchester, about eighteen miles to the east, along the line of the 1830 built Liverpool to Manchester railway. 

In 1868 a law was passed and the four old South Lancashire townships of Sutton, Eccleston, Windle and Parr were merged into the one town known as St. Helens. .

In the 1970s the County Boundaries were changed and we were moved from Lancashire to Merseyside

The  Sutton Historic Society and its members are concerned with thehistory and heritage of Sutton and its surrounding neighbours, including the neighbouring parish of Bold
